Surgery

Surgery for Animals:Understanding the Procedure

As a pet owner, you want to ensure that your pet is always healthy and happy. However, with age, accidents, and illnesses, your pet may require surgical intervention to get back to their former selves. At Johnson Creek Veterinary Services, we want our clients to understand the basics of animal surgery to help them make informed decisions regarding their pet’s health. Below is some information to help you understand surgery for your pet.

What is Animal Surgery?

Animal surgery is a medical procedure performed by a licensed veterinarian, Dr Kirner, on animals in need of medical attention. Surgery can be performed on your pet to treat injury, illness, or abnormalities.
To determine if surgery is needed, our team will assess your pet’s medical history, physical examination, and possibly perform diagnostic tests such as X-rays or blood tests. Before the procedure, our team will thoroughly examine your pet and perform pre-surgical tests to ensure they are in good health. During the surgery, your pet will be placed under general anesthesia, and the surgical site will be prepared to minimize infection risks. The procedure will begin, and Dr Kirner will closely monitor vital signs to ensure your pet’s safety during the operation. Once the surgery is complete, your pet will be moved to a recovery area where they will be monitored until they are ready to go home.

If you have additional questions or concerns about surgery for your pet, please contact us.

Health Certificates

As a pet owner, you may already know that it is essential to have a health certificate when traveling with your pet. But do you know why? Firstly, health certificates are required by law when traveling with pets because they ensure that your pet is healthy and free from any infectious diseases that could potentially spread to other animals or humans. By having this document, you are showing that you have taken the necessary steps to protect your pet and other animals from illness.

Secondly, health certificates also help to ensure that your pet is fit to travel. Long journeys can be stressful for animals, and if they have an underlying health condition that could exacerbate during travel, it could put their health at risk. A health certificate will ensure that your pet receives the necessary vaccinations and treatments that will prepare them for safe travel.

Lastly, health certificates are a requirement for international travel. Different countries have different requirements for the entry of animals, and a health certificate from a licensed veterinarian is often necessary to comply with these regulations. By obtaining a health certificate, you are increasing the likelihood of a smooth and hassle-free entry for your pet into your desired destination country. If you have additional questions or concerns about health certificates for your pet, please contact us.

Wellness & Preventative Care

As a pet owner, it’s important to understand that wellness exams are a crucial aspect of maintaining your pet’s health and well-being. Annual check-ups can help detect any underlying health issues before they become serious problems.

Here are some key reasons why wellness exams are important for your pet:

  1. Early Detection of Health Issues: Wellness exams provide an opportunity for our team to identify any health issues in your pet early on, before the condition becomes more serious. This can save you both time and money since early diagnosis and treatment is often less expensive and less invasive.
  2. Preventative Care: Regular wellness exams help prevent health problems before they occur. For example, dentistry services can help with dental problems, and flea or tick prevention can reduce the likelihood of your pet acquiring parasites.
  3. Establishing a Baseline: During a wellness check-up, our team can establish a baseline for your pet’s health, such as their weight, temperature, and general behavior. This baseline information will help determine any changes in your pet’s health during follow-up visits.
  4. Vaccinations and General Health: Routine vaccinations will protect your pet against common illnesses and diseases. And, wellness exams can also help ensure your pet stays healthy overall, as well as help make recommendations for their diet and exercise.

If you have additional questions or concerns about wellness and preventative care for your pet, please contact us.
